Leadership

Here I'm going to write about my thoughts on leadership. This past year, I've had to take a big leadership role. And I realized how actually different leadership is for everyone.

I don't even know how to begin to define a leader. Because truly, it can mean so many different things, and take on so many different aspects.

When you think of a leader, what comes to mind? To me, since I think "leader" broadly means so many different things, I think of...

1. A military general or some kind of military official

2. A president

3. A counselor I guess

   ...and then I think of

4. A normal person

   leading in some small way, by just who they are, who they choose to be, what their values are. Are they...?

   1. Kind?

   2. Considerate?

   3. Religious?

   I don't know, it could be anything to be honest, but the point is, they aren't a leader in a traditional sense that we may think. They don't have a leadership role, or, maybe they do. But let's say this, they're bad at it. They don't like being a leader. They don't like attention. They don't like their role, and maybe they don't like the things it forces them to do. They just want to be a good person. And they stay true to that, to their values...and that's what actually comes across. Because that's what matters, right?

And then I think of Jesus. Did He like being a leader? I think that He didn't like being a leader in the traditional way.

What does being a leader get you? Attention? Power? Money? Privileges?

Jesus certainly didn't care about any of that, he just cared about the salvation of humankind.

Many different reasons why someone chooses to be a leader...many different ways that it can be hard for someone based on the person...

Around people I don't know that well, I'm quiet. I don't overshare. I don't like a lot of attention. I would say, I'm not a natural leader that you would think of...loud, attention-catching, rallying, confident.

But maybe that's not all that a leader is. Maybe, that's not even what a leader is at all. I've read full books on leaderhsip and I still don't quite know.
