“It” girl

I don’t know what year this trend or concept developed, but it feels like not many years ago, like a recent development, and, at the same time, like it’s been around for years. I want to date it back to 2020…but I don’t know how I would even check on such a “fact.”
People have different ways of viewing what “it” girl means, or different interpretations. I didn’t know what it meant at first. At first and for the longest time, I thought it was just purely fashion. Purely outfits. Kind-of just that side of Pinterest. Or maybe just being pretty.
But then I saw other people have completely different interpretations of what it was. I realized what it really was, was a life lesson, because it was everyone’s idea of basically just “the perfect girl,” and everyone had a different interpretation, because everyone’s idea of perfect is different. Kind-of unbinds you from any sort-of expectations, because, at the end of the day, almost everything, most things, are completely subjective. Is that…calming?
I saw on YouTube that a lot of people associated it with diet, waking up early, working out. But those things didn’t relate much to me, so they weren’t necessarily my idea of perfect or what I wanted to be. Didn’t really care much for diet. I do care about being healthy, so eating healthy and within reason, being fit and not having health problems. I guess as far as waking up early I also care about that to an extent, but that’s only because waking up later than like…8:30 makes me feel gross, unproductive, and like I’ve just wasted a ridiculous amount of time. So it isn’t even totally healthy, how I view it, and the reasons why. But can I really change it?
And as far as working out, not into that. Just boring to me. But doesn’t make me any less interested in caring to stay fit. My ways of working out are just different though. I like dance, I walk a lot (camping, camp averages of 6/7-10/14 everyday, and university around 6-10, having to walk a mile to each class, and walking to places of entertainment too), runs is something I would like to try, just need partners for it, but luckily I’ve found friends who wish to participate.
My idea of an “it” girl remains much the same: she dresses pretty, has a unique style, stays to her true authentic self within it. In general, takes good care of herself, in terms of hygiene, makeup, hairstyles, etc this can extend. I think of these more surface-level things because this is what I see every girl try to become in university, and I see them as they walk down the street, or I follow them on Instagram. And I enjoy seeing the process. Though I have to say, I don’t know what it is, but this year, second year around, sophomore year, I am seeing less and less and am less impressed. Somehow everyone just blends, and no one seems to stand out, more than ever. Oh well, there’s only the rest of a lifetime to see.
A lot of it is also aesthetic, though. And in general, screams the word Pinterest. A true Pinterest girlie, who tries so hard to be aesthetic on her Instagram stories/highlights/feed (not saying this as a bad thing). “Romanticize.” Big word that also became trendy…perhaps around the same time? An “it” girl tries to romanticize her life, be full of life, and make the most of it.
I also associate “it” girl a lot with academia. A strong, independent, focused, motivated career woman. A girl who seems to have everything, is fulfilled and happy with life. Is “rich in all areas of her life” (quote straight out of a pin I have saved on Pinterest, lol). It’s true, and it’s quite a motivating and captivating feeling to feel.
