Obsess

People who obsess- why do they do it?
What if it's because they don't (feel like) they have control over one or more important areas of their life. It affects them greatly. So then, once they find something they do have some degree of control over, they latch onto it, seize the day, and won't let it go.
Letting go would signify defeat; it would be like giving up. And if they don't have control over that, well then, what do they have control over? Nothing. Certainly not that important life-changing, life-controlling aspect they can't do anything about.
You see, it's all about control.
Being left with nothing terrifies them. There is no prospect that is more scary, than being left alone with that "nothing," with no control. So they will do anything, to keep some degree of control. That transpires into some degree of sanity. Something that will bring them some ray of sunshine. Some happiness.
That level of obsession or dependency is never good, and can hardly be argued as such. For not too much of anything can be good. Everything has a limit (flashback to calculus). On Earth.
Yeah they should probably work on themselves...I concede...
However is it reasonable in the sense that it is understandable?
And what's a person to do, when the earth is ripped out from underneath them, and they are left on the soil and can't breathe? When the most important things in life are taken away, flashing dangerously and teasingly, with no chance of the future or survival?
It's important to stay kind. And to try to understand people's behavior.
I think it's quite sad how easy it is to fall into a pattern of, when we don't understand someone's behavior, we don't even stop for a second to acknowledge the following: I don't understand. If we started with that, perhaps we could think about our lack of knowledge, and use this as humbling leverage to stay kind, avoid misunderstanding, and THINK. Try to think from other perspectives, see from other perspectives, and understand. Reflect. Indeed if we never accept this lack of knowledge, and humility that comes with it, we will never learn, never understand, never think, never offer fresh perspectives, reflect, and probably not be as kind as well.
