Recently I became more familiar with Mount Athos, in Greece, and how it is a ban zone for women. I could not believe it at first and to admit, I was a little enraged. Why in the world were women banned? I thought to myself. It is a place for an all-men monastery. Women are not allowed, it has been going on for 1000 years. These men grow up without so much as seeing a woman. I find it crazy and intriguing. Obviously they just want to keep a place women-free...but is it too extreme? As a monk, their entire life is devoted to serving God. When you look at pictures of Mount Athos, it truly looks like the most beautiful island ever. Who wouldn't want a life like that, right? Haha.

I was enraged a little for the pure embarrassment that Mount Athos presented. We had to separate the two forever because otherwise they couldn't pray? Is this what it had come to? Men and women can't pray together? And not just pray, but be monks and nuns together. Obviously, Mount Athos is an extreme case, and it is considered to be an extremely holy place. I understand why it was created, and there's probably a lot I don't understand about it, but at the same time, it is upsetting, and that's the only point I'm trying to make here.

In the ideal society, we wouldn't have to be that strict or separated. In general we would have control and be only stronger from it. Not weaker. Not neutral. We already live in a world with much temptation. This is speaking generally, and I understand the world is not perfect, nor should it be.

There is no need for women on that island. Those men have decided to dedicate their lives to God. But the question is, is there a need for permanently banning them? Apparently yes, it's just interesting to think about.

This is not my title, but another title of another AJR song. Though it looks and sounds just like my own title, doesn’t it? I guess that’s just another sign of how well the songs, titles, lyrics, and

There’s a series of AJR songs that I think are a little bit more summery- so I might write about them as we get closer to summer. Even if, right now, it’s March (March 5th as I’m writing this), so lik
