Respect

I believe respect should be inherent.

I've heard people say "Respect is earned." And I definitely don't disagree. But there's a certain problem I have with this quote when respect is just earned.

Even if you don't realize, there's a certain level of respect we all adhere to pertaining to other individuals. Imagine being rude to someone you just met; I mean, it's just something we don't really do.

And if there's no inherent respect, what kind of society is that? And what kind of relationship, without being on the basis of respect?

This is slightly a different tangent but still pertaining to the same topic of respect: I also just believe that (at least I've noticed, for some people) respect goes down as you seem to get to know them. And I don't like this. But I also think I've noticed that that was really a big problem, trend, and pattern I noticed with those same friends I've lost, and not really the people of nowadays in my life. They actually maintain a high quality astonishing amount of respect. It's really surprising and nice.

And then I believe respect should be earned.

It's actually kind-of inherently earned I believe because if you think about it, as you get to know a person, and find out more about them, I think you just tend to respect them more. I mean granted the things you are learning are things that are respectful (like are respected of a person and should be respected of a person; make you respect them more) I think that makes sense.

Untli you really know a person, can you ever really fully truly respect them? Like not just in a "I have to respect them society-ly and to just be a good person" but truly respect them.

That's when true respect happens. That's where the magic and fun begins.

There’s a series of AJR songs that I think are a little bit more summery- so I might write about them as we get closer to summer. Even if, right now, it’s March (March 5th as I’m writing this), so lik
