A friend situation

I think I’m going to start a new series on here where I give you SONGS for situations. I randomly had this idea.
If you read my blog, I think you can obviously tell that I’m obsessed with music. Indeed, music keeps me alive. Music keeps me going. Without it, it’s like what the hell.
Also, side note, is that feel free to comment music recommendations in the comments. As much as I love sharing music, I also love discovering new music that I’m obsessed with. It’s probably part of a very thorough personality but also- you just never know what’s out there, you know?! There’s so many artists I listen to nowadays, that I never knew or never knew I would have unliked unless it was for somebody or for giving them a chance. So many artists that even a year ago I might have barely known- and now it’s part of what I listen to everyday and a huge part of my “wrapped.” Isn’t that crazy? Music has the capability of being such a great part of- at least my life. It has that POWER.
These are songs for a FRIEND situation. And I mean a BAD situation. A PETTY situation. Someone who hurt you, someone who wasn’t there for you, someone who betrayed you. Whatever, feel in the blank. A lot of times, people say, this has the capability of hurting a lot more than a romantical relationship breakup- ever could. I think there’s a lot of truth to that. Friends hurt so much, because you are so close to them. Romantic is less something we’re used to. It’s more weird. Friends are vital to like-making it through life and making life more enjoyable. There are literally still friend situations that hurt me that I think about everyday to this day. I still think. I still question. These situations happened YEARS AGO. Like music, friends have great power or impact on our lives. Friends can hurt us irreversibily and scarringly, but music heals. So here goes:
As you will see, songs are pretty versatile, is I guess the word. They can be interpreted in different ways. They can be applied to multiple situations. And it all depends on the person and what the person wants. That’s the beauty of the art of music.
Don’t Wanna Be- The Score
This song is about not wanting to be someone who just follows the lines and doesn’t make their own way in life. Something that bothers me about other people is people who change around other people. Or fake people. Big pet peeves of mine. So the first line of this song: “I don’t ever wanna be someone who will never recognize themself.”
Enemies- The Score
Title speaks for itself. As you can see, this is a perfect example of one of those songs that can apply to a situation as much as a person. This song is of resilience, strength. “I believe, underneath I was born to be a soldier Reaching for my destiny Goodbye to my enemies.” About saying goodbye to your enemies. About enemies who thought you would give up- but no. “Fight ‘til the end of me, ‘til the end of me Did you think that it would be that easy? This ain’t a tragedy, a tr-tr-tragedy I’m not going six feet in the ground It’s not a fever dream, it’s reality Cut me open and my heart’s still beating Healed from my injuries, now I’m on my feet I’m not going six feet in the ground ‘Cause I believe underneath I won’t ever lose composure No defeat, won’t retreat Hold the line until it’s over.” Especially when things are hard, you really thought I would just give up, didn’t you?
Heaven Sees- David Kushner
“I’m burnin’ this bridge that you crossed Learnin’ to live with love that’s lost…Oh, you wanna start a fire? Oh, you wanna try and burn my soul? Go ahead and spark the lighter Heaven sees through your skin and bones Go lie, truth is gonna shine through Tongue-tied, trip over your words too Goodbye, Hell is gonna love Hell is gonna love.” “Go lie, truth is gonna shine through.” All that needs to be said.
Humankind- David Kushner
This song is very implacable to disappoint in a SYSTEM too (which means it’s very implcicable to me.) But humankind? Just as applicable to a human then of course, as well. It also has some terrific Chrisitian//dark Chrisitian imagery- “I met the devil Sunday morning with his hands in the air He blew his pay check on the plate that they were passing He’s testifying in the light, but he was heartless in prayer He had the spirit and expensive taste in fashion I’m the one that you came and slaughtered You spin me around I was looking for living water You just let me drown I put my faith in a sinners town Land of the free chained to the ground When I look for kindness now Humankind just lets me down…Oh my heavens cussing me out…They lost the message in a bottle, now it’s covered in blood They sell a saving just to make a great commission We love the ones who hurt us, and we hurt the ones that we love We’re sacrificing one another for tradition.”
we’re not alike- Tate McRae
This is like pure perfect for whatever situation you’re going through. “I got a lack of good judgement judging by the fact I got close to you…You know there’s nothing worse than missing the signs ‘Cause you pulled the wool right over your eyes I’ll admit when I’m wrong but this time I’m right.” And that’s the thing. If I was wrong I would admit it. “I could never do it once then she did it twice And you wonder why, and you wonder why We’re not alike.” “Told me him and I would look so good So when did you decide you want him instead? No, I’m not saying I’m petty But there’s no sayin’ that you’re so innocent.” Isn’t it so annoying when you get back stabbed and the person acts like they’re so innocent?
Burning Down- Alex Warren
This song is perfect. “I guess you never know, someone you think you know.” So sad. “Can’t see the knife when you’re too close, too close It scars forever when someone you called a friend Shows you the truth can be so cold, so cold.” The chorus is when it gets really relatable with what I mentioned above: acting innocent: “Said I’m the one who’s wanted for all the fires you started You knew the house was burning down, I had to get out.” Here is where it’s about how they start turning people against you, mixed with darkish Christianity themes: “You led your saints and sinners, and fed ‘em lies for dinner…Every chance to make amends instead you got drunk on bitterness.” People who choose this route instead: “And you still claim you’re innocent, it’s sad that you…” What about someone you’re living with? “We were sharing the same four walls.” Betrayal. House.
You Don’t Even Know Me- Faouzia
This one is for people who, no matter how long they’ve known you for, think they know you. But in reality, they really don’t! They don’t listen, they don’t hear you, they don’t see you, they don’t understand you. They’re delusional in thinking that their do. Instead they just clench to their sides and refuse to see anyone elses’. “Oh, you see what you wanna see But you don’t even know me.” And here’s for the drama: “He said, she said over it You’re acting like you’re brilliant But you don’t know Yeah, you don’t know You don’t know a thing at all You don’t know the way I am when I am all alone.”
Like I do- Tate McRae
What about people who just clearly want to be like you? “Say you wanna know me, you don’t wanna know me You just wanna do what I do You’ve been tryin’ to read me, think you wanna be me You should go ahead and try to Say you wanna know me, you don’t wanna know me You just wanna do what I do Like I do.”
want that too- Tate McRae
Continuing the theme from the previous song. What about giving someone everything? Everything you could possibly want in life? And they have everything? Life, education, personality, friends, faith….now? But you’re the one left broken? “Oh, I gave you everything I couldn’t afford to lose Now I pull myself together and you come out of the blue Taking all the better parts of me is all you ever do Now the second I find something good I know you’re gonna want that too You’re gonna want that too.”
Yes I’m A Mess- AJR
This one is funny. A relatable situation. “I leave my house at 3 o’clock With two hundred texts and two missed calls Guess all of the friends that I pissed off All talked.” You know that horrible feeling when you give someone friends and now they’re turning people against you? So now you don’t even know where you stand? And it makes things awkward and just gives you anxiety? You don’t know if people secretly hate you now, and are just fake nice? And all you ever tried to be was to be nice and generous?
Soon I will have music for every type of situation- just you wait and see!
